DaSilva's "Black Magic" is the first installment of her upcoming LP, "The 1905", which is out this September (9/29/23). With Black Magic + Wee Small Hours, DaSilva kicks off the fourth volume in her prolific “Living Room” visual record series, a window onto what jazz looks and sounds like today. The vocalist trades her regular filming location, the cozy living room in her Manhattan apartment, for the stage of The 1905 in Portland, bringing along some of New York’s best musicians for the ride. Sarah Hanahan (saxophone) delivers a knockout solo on Black Magic, and Wee Small Hours features a gorgeous, heartfelt performance by Liya Grigoryan (piano). “This album is a collaboration with The 1905 and the local community,” shares DaSilva, who received generous support from club owner Aaron Barnes and anonymous donor patrons to produce the record. “I’m so happy with how this record turned out,” she continues, “and it’s only possible because of the atmosphere Aaron has created, where I feel as at home as I do in my own living room. Aaron is all about building relationships and building up his home. It’s an act of love for his own community, and it’s a very generous thing to do.”
