AURORA BOREALIS — a visual double single comprised of Cheek to Cheek and Midnight Sun, both from her LP “Living Room 3,” due late fall. Both songs feature arrangements, vocals and piano from Kelly Green.

Cheek to Cheek and Midnight Sun are the newest additions to DaSilva’s visual record series “Living Room,” an intimate portrait of what jazz looks and sounds like today. DaSilva conceived of the project in early 2020: each week or so, she would invite friends from the New York jazz community, or artists visiting town, over to her apartment to rehearse and film a few songs.

“It’s not super calculated, it’s just a bunch of great musicians in a room. We usually learn every song in an hour,” she explains.

The results speak for themselves: recordings that feel alive, capturing a wide swath of jazz’s best young talent up close and personal, here featuring the multi-hyphenate Green on vocals, piano, and arrangements. In addition to her vocals, DaSilva also directs, produces, and edits each video, shaping the vibrant, DIY aesthetic of the footage. DownBeat Magazine recently profiled DaSilva on her work behind the camera. To date, “Living Room” boasts thirty-plus music videos and counting, all available on DaSilva’s Youtube channel. “It’s made me feel like an artist again,” she says of the project. “It’s been incredibly rewarding.”
